DC Entertainment Bringing Batman Experience To Gear VR and Oculus Rift 20

muterobert writes It's been announced that Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, and OTOY are collaborating to recreate the iconic Batcave from Batman: The Animated Series in virtual reality for Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift. OTOY is providing what they call "holographic video" technology to render the scene in a way that's true to the Batcave of the classic 90s show.

  • I bet there's a joke somewhere about "blind as a bat".

  • There was a Batman TV show in the 90's?

I thought the only Batman TV show was the campy 70's version. Or are they referring to a cartoon?

    • It's referring to Batman: The Animated Series. Which led to Superman: The Animated Series. Which led to Justice League. Which led to Justice League Unlimited. (And Batman Beyond and Static Shock in the mix somewhere.)

It appears that TFS has been edited to answer my question.

      Thanks.

    • Or are they referring to a cartoon?

From TFS: "Batman: The Animated Series", so yes.

    • There was a Batman TV show in the 90's?

"Batman: The Animated Series" introduced the now iconic character, Harley Quinn.

Kevin Conroy [wikipedia.org] has had the longest run of any actor to play Batman, 1992 to the present. In 85 episodes of Batman: TAS alone.

  • I'm still irritated that none of the modern iterations of this comic do not include the side-kick character.

    • You don't seem to have read any of the modern iterations of the comic.

The robins have *ALWAYS* been a core part of the Batman Mythos.

Since the New 52, Batman had a Robin called Damian who was his biological son, trained to be a killer. The series "Batman and Robin" deals with him trying to establish a relationship with his son who has become Robin and trying to change his ways.

A huge crossover event at the moment involves Batman going against Darkseid to reclaim his sons body back.

      An amazing Batman story in

  • I liked the show. But this sounds pretty boring. Would rather have the batmobile added to one of the driving sims that support VR.

It would be cooler if it would work with a regular smart-phone and google-cardboard. The cardboard version would overheat my phone, but a plastic version of the cardboard design is able to produce VR that's much more effective than I expected without enclosing the phone and creating a heat problem.

I bought this one, which lacks the magnet required by some VR apps, but works with most Android VR apps. I have not tried it with an iPhone. http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ... [amazon.com]

I also picked up a bluetooth game controller and some NFC tags to complete the package http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ... [amazon.com] http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ... [amazon.com]

It's a fun setup to play around with until OR is released.
